Terror Info

When spawning, Penumbra will initially be inactive. Penumbra cannot be stunned.

Penumbra will make itself known roughly every 30-50 seconds. Players will get shrouded in Fog and Penumbra will appear in a random direction, visible through walls. Additionally an eyeball indicator will appear. Penumbra will then begin approaching the player, slowly opening its mouth and glitching. After Penumbra has been active for more than 7 seconds, at a random time up to 6 seconds, Penumbra will scream and drastically increase its speed, effectively racing to the player.

Once it is too close, Players must be looking DIRECTLY at Penumbra which can be done using the indicator. If players are looking at it during the attack, it will simply vanish and the fog will return to normal. Otherwise, players will take heavy damage and be inflicted with blindness and Penumbra will vanish.

Penumbra will become more aggressive once the difficulty has reached Very Hard.

Trivia

  • Penumbra has a 1/1000 chance every attack to appear as a hedgehog dancing instead of its usual sprite.
  • Penumbra can activate at any time, making it extremely difficult in some scenarios.
  • Penumbra’s position is local for every player, but every player will encounter Penumbra at the same time.
  • Penumbra’s mechanic is much more generous in VR due to the middle of the screen being less obvious.
  • Penumbra has a randomized distance it will appear, meaning the time it takes to get close enough to be banished is somewhat random.
  • Penumbra’s position is also calculated in worldspace, meaning it is technically possible to run from Penumbra or evade it momentarily by teleporting. This also can have the opposite effect where being too close will put players within Penumbra’s kill range early.
  • Due to this, Penumbra has a very short window once it begins attacking where it will not kill players but can still be warded off to avoid unfair deaths.
  • Terrors with fog manipulation will also mess with Penumbra’s fog.
  • Penumbra’s fog is the only fog able to be fully pitch black.
  • Players holding Have Plush will not be attacked by Penumbra.
  • Penumbra is one of the few Medium terrors that Brambles can summon.
  • The sounds of Penumbra originate from Garn47 and Spooky’s Jumpscare Mansion.
